Jazz Sig News item 1

The Jazz SIG is excited to announce the following special jazz related events at the upcoming ISME conference, July 20-25, 2014, in Porto Alegre, Brazil:

JAZZ CONCERT: An entire evening concert featuring Jazz at the Theatro Sao Pedro in the old city part of Porto Alegre. It seats about 1200 and is a gorgeous old opera theater built in 1858. The acoustics are marvelous. Performers will be selected from top Brazilian & international artists and school groups. See application info below.

JAZZ CLUB: Nightly jazz club at the Sheraton Hotel (the top conference hotel). A dedicated jazz space for all of our folks to play every night. The Jazz SIG will organize the lineup. We estimate the space will hold about 100. Equipment will be provided for visiting groups.

SAMBA SUNDAY: A day of advanced instruction in playing samba for visiting jazz artists and students taught by the instructors from the Samba School in Porto Alegre. Each year before Carnaval,  Samba Schools in all large cities teach the community the music for the festival. Traditional instruments will be provided and/or participants can play their our instruments.

Please consider attending, and/or bringing your school/university jazz ensemble to perform at ISME 2014 in Brazil to participate in these events. To submit a performance application, go to http://www.isme.org/call-for-performing-groups . Note the deadline for applying is August 30th, 2013.

To submit an application for a presentation, go to http://www.isme.org/call-for-presenters. The deadline is October 1st, 2013.
